Dance Like No-One is Watching! How to Stay Active while in Self-Isolation

Gyms and yoga studios might be shut, but it is still easy to get plenty of exercise while working from home or self-isolating.

How Much Exercise is Necessary?

Healthy adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise every week, or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise weekly in addition to doing some muscle-strengthening activities on at least a couple of days of the week. Also, when you exercise, it releases feel good hormones that are important for mental health.

Take Regular Breaks If You Work from Home

If you are working from home, make sure you take a regular break every 20 to 30 minutes just to walk around your home or garden the garden for a few minutes. If you have pets, use the time to play with them.

Use Your Bodyweight

Bodyweight exercises like planks, press-ups and sit-ups are just as important as aerobic exercise. Aim to complete at least a couple of exercise sessions using your bodyweight weekly. There are plenty of excellent resources online.

Finally, no one can see you so dance away your blues. Dancing is a great way to relieve stress and can provide moderate to high-intensity exercise.
