TMJ & BRUXISM

Did you wake up with a sore jaw this morning or perhaps a headache? Facial pain, aching jaws and sore teeth and gums can all be a sign of bruxism, a condition caused by subconsciously clenching and grinding your teeth during sleep. If you even suspect this might be happening to you, we strongly suggest you come and see us for a diagnosis. This condition can be extremely destructive and in the worst case can cause tooth loss. It may also affect your jaw joints called temporomandibular joints, causing a condition called TMD. You may have TMD if you find your lower jaw makes a popping or clicking sound or is painful to move.

Treatment Could Be Easy

Often we can treat bruxism by supplying you with a custom-made night guard or splint. This is a comfortable, easy to wear an appliance that will fit over your teeth, preventing them from coming into contact so you cannot clench or grind.
